A philosophy built
on presence
Many patients ask what my "style" is. The answer lies in working in tandem with each person's nervous system, understanding that everyone has different treatment needs at various times.
Precise
Precision and attention to detail in every assessment and technique. Each session targets exactly what your body needs.
Comprehensive
Understanding the body as an integrated system, not isolated parts. Your treatment considers the whole picture.
Intentional
Every choice, touch, and moment of care is deliberate. Nothing is accidental; everything serves your healing.
Alex Yang, RMT, BKIN
Senior Registered Massage Therapist practicing in Downtown Vancouver's West End since 2021.
With a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from UBC and a minor in Psychology, Alex's approach is grounded in a deep understanding of how the body moves, adapts, and heals. Every session reflects that foundation: careful assessment, purposeful technique, and genuine attention to how you're feeling.
A lifelong athlete, with roots in gymnastics, volleyball, weight training, and yoga, Alex brings a lived understanding of physical performance and recovery to every session. His treatments are nervous system-informed and individually tailored, drawing on myofascial techniques, neuromuscular therapy, joint mobilizations, and dynamic release.

How I
Work
Every treatment starts with a conversation. I want to understand not just where it hurts, but how you move, what you do, and what recovery looks like for you.
From there, I build a personalized plan, combining deep tissue work, myofascial release, and joint mobilization to address what's actually going on, not just what's on the surface.
What to Expect
Your first visit is more than a treatment. It's the beginning of a partnership in understanding your body.
Intake & Assessment
We begin with a thorough conversation about your history, goals, and current concerns. A detailed physical assessment follows to identify the root of your discomfort.
Tailored Treatment
Myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilizations, and more. Each session is crafted specifically for your body's needs.
Guidance & Next Steps
You'll leave with a clear understanding of what was addressed, personalized home-care recommendations, and a plan for ongoing support.
Frequently asked
questions
A few things patients often ask about billing, treatment, and booking. If your question isn't here, send a note below.
Do you accept insurance for Registered Massage Therapy?
Yes. I offer direct billing for many extended health plans, including ICBC. Coverage and limits vary by plan, so it's best to review your individual benefits. Please bring your insurance information to your appointment so we can confirm eligibility.
What if I have multiple extended health plans?
Some combinations of primary and secondary plans can be direct billed. If direct billing isn't available for your specific plans, payment is due at your appointment and you'll receive a receipt to submit for reimbursement. You're welcome to ask ahead of time if you would like clarification.
Your schedule is often fully booked. What's the best way to get an appointment?
Booking ahead or using my waitlist is the best way to secure an appointment. You can add yourself from the bottom left-hand corner of my online booking page, and you'll be automatically notified if an opening becomes available. Cancellations do happen, and spots do open up. If you're dealing with an acute or time-sensitive concern, you're welcome to send me an email or direct message and I'll do my best to help.
You're known for deep, specific treatment. What if I prefer lighter pressure or relaxation?
Every session is tailored to you. While I'm known for focused, therapeutic work, pressure and approach are always adjusted based on your comfort, goals, and how your body feels that day. Treatment is collaborative, whether you're looking for targeted care, moderate pressure, or a more restorative session.
What can I expect if I'm coming in for a sports or exercise-related concern?
Sessions begin with a focused assessment, considering movement patterns and the biomechanics of your sport or activity. Treatment is applied intentionally to the relevant tissues and depths, followed by exercise and rehab recommendations when appropriate. If appropriate, athletic or kinesiology taping may be used to help you stay active.
What types of athletes or sports do you treat?
I work with a wide range of athletes, from recreational to elite. Experience includes (but is not limited to): volleyball, gymnastics, weightlifting, running, cycling, soccer, hockey, basketball, CrossFit, Hyrox, rowing, sailing, horseback riding, and dance.
I'm curious about TMJ / jaw treatment. What is your approach?
TMJD care requires a comprehensive approach. Symptoms may be acute or chronic and often involve multiple contributing factors, including posture, muscle tension, stress, and habits such as clenching or grinding. Treatment begins with a thorough assessment and history, followed by discussion of external and intra-oral options for manual therapy. Care is introduced gradually and intentionally to allow the nervous system to adapt.
What is unique about your 30-minute sports massage?
This treatment is offered in two formats:
Pre-event: ideal in the days leading up to a competition. The focus is on preparing your body and nervous system, energizing and supportive rather than corrective.
Post-event: ideal shortly after an event. Treatment focuses on recovery, soreness reduction, injury management, and restorative support.
